# Background checks

Background checks provide screening and verification data for an entity. Use these resources to list checks, retrieve a specific check, download its PDF report, and inspect the records found during the check.

Records contain the detailed results behind a background check. They are organized by category and database so you can review the specific information that contributed to the check.

| Status      | Meaning                                      |
| ----------- | -------------------------------------------- |
| `pending`   | The background check is being processed.     |
| `completed` | The background check completed successfully. |
| `error`     | The background check encountered an error.   |

| Country scope | Meaning                                                    |
| ------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| `MX`          | Mexico-specific background checks.                         |
| `ALL`         | International background checks across multiple countries. |

Common categories include identity verification, criminal records, legal background, business background, professional background, credit history, taxes and finances, media alerts, politically exposed person screening, and document validation.
